  • Two-Factor Authentication: Use an Authenticator App, never SMS.
  • Transfer Rule: Never send crypto directly from an exchange to an unverified third party or vendor.

Mobile Crypto Security & Wallet Best Practices

  • Ad & Tracker Blocking: Install an ad blocker (e.g., uBlock Origin) and a tracker blocker (e.g., Ghostery) on your mobile and desktop browsers to minimize footprints.
  • Public Wi-Fi Rule: Strictly avoid using public Wi-Fi (airports, cafes) for financial activity unless running a zero-logs VPN (see Section 1: OpSec VPN Tip).
  • Email Hygiene: Secure your email with 2FA (Authenticator App, NOT SMS) and never use this email for anything other than account logins.
Mobile Security Guide
  • Wallet Choice: Select a non-custodial wallet (e.g., Cake Wallet, Trust Wallet, Exodus) and install it on your primary, secured mobile device.
  • Your Recovery Phrase: The wallet will generate a 12–24 word phrase (Seed). This phrase IS your wallet — never your password.
  • Full private key control (generates your 12-word offline recovery phrase).
  • Multi-asset & multi-network support for smooth stablecoin handling.
  • Built-in exchange feature to swap coins directly inside the wallet if needed.
Download Exodus
  • "If it's typed, it's compromised." Never store your recovery phrase digitally. Do not take a screenshot, save it to notes, email it, or store it in password managers.
  • Paper Only: Strictly use paper and a durable ink pen. Write two copies of the phrase in exact numerical order and store them in separate, secure physical locations. If you lose this phrase, you lose your crypto permanently.
  • Verify the Network: Ensure the network choice matches identically (e.g., TRC-20, ERC-20, BTC). Sending TRC-20 funds to an ERC-20 address results in permanent loss.
  • Start with a Test Send: Before committing a full purchase, always send a small ($1–$5) trial amount to verify you can successfully receive and send from the new wallet.
  • Wallet First: Always withdraw from Kraken to a self-custody wallet such as Cake Wallet, Trust Wallet, or Exodus before spending.
  • Recovery Phrase: Store your 12–24 word recovery phrase offline on paper.
  • Network Match: Ensure networks match identically, such as TRC-20 vs. ERC-20.
  • Clipboard Check: Verify the first 4 and last 4 characters to block clipboard malware.
  • Fee Separation: Always pay network gas separately from the wallet balance.
  • Invoice Rule: Never choose 'deduct fee from send amount' or invoices will be short.
  • Network Costs: BTC and ERC-20 often cost more; LTC, TRC-20, Polygon, and Solana are typically lower-fee options when supported.
  • Native Token Rule: Stablecoins need the chain's native token for gas, such as ETH on ERC-20 or TRX on Tron.
